Scottish Retreats - Celebrate People

Our celebrant Angus Farquhar is always coming up with great ideas, and his latest one is ‘The Chip Shop’.

Angus said, “When I set up Aproxima Arts, I decided that  as well as wider art works and productions, we should do something exactly where we live, and that was where the idea for a community garden was born.

It’s called ‘The Kelvindale Growers Garden’ and it’s based just east of Anniesland in Glasgow.

Among the many things we grow there are potatoes and each year, in early spring, Alex McCreight of Patch Potatoes in County Down sends us a box of Maris Piper seed potatoes.

This year they grew really well, so we decided to set up ‘The Chip Shop’. It’s truly local food.

We peel and chip them at the garden and then we cook them up in a big fry. The distance from ‘Gate to Plate’ is less then 3 metres!

The Community Garden is a great way to do something worthwhile right outside your door. If you’d like to do something similar, why don’t you get in touch with Angus and ask his advice? You can contact him here, through his Profile Page.
