Remembrance day 2022

As Barack Obama said the other day, “despair is not an option”. We need to keep trying.

Our celebrant Tim Maguire was invited to deliver a reflection at the Scottish Government’s Remembrance Day ceremony at St Andrew’s House on Friday 11th November.

The question he asked was, “What have we learned since people first got together to remember “the war to end all wars”? And his answer was, “clearly, “not enough”.

Tim said, “It’s a great honour to speak at a ceremony like this. It was only on the 99th anniversary of Armistice Day that a humanist was first invited to participate, so there’s a real responsibility to provide a secular perspective on behalf of all those who have lost their lives in conflict, whether military or civilian.”
