Gerrie Douglas-Scott

Biography

I have been a Celebrant since 2003 and I am the Pastoral Care Lead with Celebrate People.  I conduct many different kinds of ceremonies in English, Spanish, French and sometimes Italian!  I love totally personalised ceremonies and helping couples and families to be part of creating memories for the people they love.

It is my joy to respect the beliefs of people with spiritual and religious beliefs too.  And the balance between warmth, humour and the quiet and beauty when you make your vows is central to my approach and my relationship with you.  Celebrating and remembering the life of someone is a total privilege and one of the most significant things i have ever done over the past 20 years.

Empathy and kindness and genuine enjoyment is central to everything I do.

I was a government adviser on involving people in their health care and in 2022-3, I was the Co-Chair of the Scottish Government’s Expert Working Group on Spiritual Care  Education (Health and Social Care).

I am completely passionate about performing person-centred ceremonies that are tailored to your wishes and hopes and needs.

Love and connection are everything to me and as the first women to be married in a same sex ceremony in Scotland, Susan and I welcome ALL who love, and who love each other in marriage. We are even known to conduct ceremonies together by special request.

I am a counsellor with Celebrate People too and I can accompany people at the end of life too.  I am grateful to do what I can do, I really am.

I am here if you would like to ask any questions at all.

Reviews

“Gerrie conducted our ceremony and not only is she an amazing humanist celebrant but she is an amazing human! Gerrie helped us design a ceremony that reflects both myself and my, now husband, Michael. Gerrie kept in touch all throughout the planning stages and was just superb on the day. Our ceremony was nothing short of perfect! Gerrie was full of energy and kept all of our nearest and dearest totally engrossed in her lovely words. Many of our friends and family commented in our guest book that it was the most romantic, light-hearted, well-delivered ceremony they had ever been too! We can’t thank Gerrie enough! You’re just a total ray of sunshine and you made our day!”

Gerrie Douglas-Scott

October 15, 2024

We first met Gerrie way back in 2020 at a wedding fayre in Glasgow whilst looking at rough ideas for what we were looking for when we were ready to plan our big day. Gerrie’s humour and prompt answers we had for questions at the same assured us Gerrie was the real deal.

Of course a lot happened between 2020 and when we were looking to plan our big day so it was unfortunately put on hold. Once life resumed some form of normality, my wife found Gerrie on Facebook and after a brief back and forth we were able to secure Gerrie to conduct our wedding ceremony.

From start to finish, Gerrie has remained professional, ensuring we had done what we had to do by specific deadlines. Everything was sent over in such a simple and foolproof way to ensure we ordered what we needed, sent off for what we had to document, and wrote what we wanted to say on the day. Many emails and Teams calls ensured we were kept up to date, gave us a rough idea on what to expect on the day, and was available to accommodate any last minute changes.

The big day came and Gerrie arrived at the venue in good time and gave me a rundown on what was going to happen. My beautiful bride walked up to meet me in front of the iconic Savings Bank clock and Gerrie was quick to jump into action. She entertained our guests with some jokes, told a fantastic story of how we met and ensured no eyes stayed dry during the ceremony.

We simply cannot thank Gerrie enough for everything she has done for us from the start right up until our big day. We would definitely recommend Gerrie to be anyone’s first choice for officiating their big day.

La mejor!

September 14, 2024

Gracias Gerrie!

Sigue haciendo felices a muchas más parejas. Excelente experiencia contigo.

Gerrie is the best celebrant anyone can have. She is kind, attentive to the detail and commited to conduct a ceremony that you won’t forget. Gerrie married me and my partner at Dunnottar Castle and conducted the whole ceremony in Spanish. Her Spanish is perfect and our guests were delighted with her kindness and sense of humor. If you are looking for a ceremony with a tailored script for you, she is who you are looking for. We wrote the script and with her help the outcome was a dream come true. Thanks Gerrie!! You made everyone beyond happy that day.

So much love for Gerrie!

June 20, 2024

Gerrie married me and my partner Olivia on 15 June 2024. Gerrie has been a joy to work with from the very beginning – soon after I filled out the inquiry form on her website, she gave me a ring asking if I had time for a “wee chat” and then we had a very lovely conversation for nearly an hour – and I normally hate talking to people on the phone! I immediately knew Gerrie was the right celebrant for us.

Gerrie helped us put together a unique ceremony full of personal meaning and made the whole process very simple. I’m nonbinary and Gerrie was very excited for me that I got to select bridegroom as my designation instead of bride. As a queer couple, we both felt very understood and embraced by Gerrie. The day before our wedding, we invited Gerrie to the Airbnb house where we were staying with our guests for a barbecue, and when it turned out none of us actually really knew how to barbecue, Gerrie saved us all with her incredible barbecue skills – all our guests adored her and we were extremely grateful!

On the day of the ceremony we were all swarmed by midges but Gerrie was completely unfazed and conducted the ceremony beautifully and with her usual wonderful charm, competence and calm manner. Even despite the midges, it was perfect and everything we could have ever wished for. Gerrie was just the absolute best celebrant – inclusive, warm, and wholeheartedly supportive. Thank you so much Gerrie!!

Amazing!!

If I could give Gerrie more stars I would!!! The way she conducted our ceremony was everything we wanted and more. Gerrie helped us create a ceremony that was so unique to us right from the very beginning all the way through to the big day. She continuously checked up on us through out the entire process which was greatly appreciated. Her energy truly brought the ceremony to life and all of our friends and family loved her! We are incredibly grateful to her for helping us create unforgettable memories for not only us but our guests as well, she made our day so special! We can’t thank her enough but from the bottom of our hearts Thank You So Much!

Perfect Wedding Ceremony

February 28, 2024

Gerrie and Susan Douglas-Scott married us in the Cow Shed in Crail. From start to finish they were warm and welcoming. Gerrie designed the perfect ceremony for us which was so personal and intimate. Our family and friends had such positive feedback too and so many of them said that it was a gorgeous ceremony.

It couldn’t have went better for us, they were perfect and would recommend them both wholeheartedly.

13/10/23 Our wedding day

October 17, 2023

Gerrie Douglas-Scott was our celebrant for our special day at Enterkine house.

Since the very first day we booked her she had everything covered for us and helped us make it as personal as we liked along with loads of different ideas for our ceremony.

Gerrie is one of the nicest people we have had the privilege of meeting and her warmth and humour translated perfectly into our ceremony which which had all of our guests both crying tears of joy and laughter.

We can’t thank Gerrie enough for everything she did for us and urge anyone to look no further than Gerrie for their big day.

Our wedding and my dad's funeral

October 8, 2023

Gerrie was a huge part of our tiny wedding during lockdown in 2021, and when my dad died recently we planned the funeral so she was able to be our celebrant. It was so special to have her back with us at a difficult time – her warmth, humour and relaxed approach made everything so much easier. We knew we were in safe hands. A wonderful person and our go-to celebrant for life!

What can we say apart from a big thank you. Gerrie douglas Scott’s warmth, personality and ability to relax you plus at the same time make the whole affair as informal as you would like shined through from our initial meeting to the end. Gerrie provided plenty of support and ideas that allowed us to make our wedding as personal as we wished. More personal and humorous than we ever imagined and she delivered this in a way that had everyone present laughing and crying at the same time.

Our perfect wedding

May 17, 2023

Gerrie Douglas-Scott was our celebrant for our wedding on 22nd April 2023. We booked her a year in advance and she was the best thing that could have happened to us! She helped us with the whole wedding planning process and kept us right with all of our timelines and what we had to do and when. She was so kind, friendly and approachable and felt like just a very special guest at our wedding. Her ideas for our ceremony and help structuring everything we wanted was invaluable and made it just perfect. It was so personal and felt like us. It felt like Gerrie had known us forever and totally got us as a couple and a family which was hugely important to us and to how we wanted our wedding to feel. We couldn’t rate Gerrie highly enough, she was a huge part of why our wedding was simply perfect.

Micro Wedding Ceremony

April 5, 2023

Gerrie Douglas-Scott was the celebrant of our wedding beside the banks of Loch Voil in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Beforehand Gerrie sent us so much helpful information to guide us through the ceremony whilst also encouraging us to personalise and adapt the content. It made the process of creating our ceremony very straightforward and enjoyable, and our conversations with Gerrie beforehand reassured us that we were picking the perfect person to ensure our ceremony had the calm and fun atmosphere that we hoped for. I also really appreciated Gerrie taking the time to meet both myself and my husband on the day of our wedding to say hello and ensure we felt prepared and ready for the steps ahead. Our ceremony was perfect and that wouldn’t have been possible without Gerrie. Our guests all commented on the wonderful job that she did and I cannot thank Gerrie enough for helping us to create a ceremony so personal to us.

Celebration of Graham

March 26, 2023

Gerrie was the celebrant at my husband Graham’s funeral recently – but those words don’t really do justice to the part she played in making it the perfect send off for Graham. She was with the family every step of the way in organising the service. She provided gentle support at such a difficult time, and listened carefully to the memories of the whole family to make sure that Graham’s life was celebrated in such a special way. I’ll always be grateful for choosing Gerrie to be our celebrant for Graham.

Linda Warwick

Don Quixote and Sancho Panza

February 24, 2023

Over the past few years, I’ve said goodbye to a number of old friends and Gerrie has been the celebrant at two. A few years ago she helped give a wonderful send off to Dave Stevenson, a lovely and talented man who once played Don Quixote. The other week, she helped us say goodbye to my dearest friend, Graham Warwick, who played Sancho Panza in the same production.

Gerrie has an unobtrusive warmth and an intuitive insight into the need of those who grieve to remember, to laugh, and to feel. Graham’s send off was everything it needed to be and I’m so grateful to Gerrie for helping bring the service together.
